COM 399: Community Field Experience
This was the capstone course for my communication degree. I completed over 90 hours of volunteering, split between Deaf C.A.N. in Sylvan Lake, Mich., and Powell Middle School in Washington, Mich. At Deaf C.A.N. I worked as a receptionist and practiced American Sign Language, while at Powell, I worked as a teacher’s aide teaching kids ASL. I logged my experiences and then composed an essay relating volunteering, citizenship and communication. The last day of class I orally presented my findings.
The essay can be read here: Deaf-An Unheard Community
